ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses the subversive mechanisms of representative caricature. It
explores the form in which laughter and comedy establish themselves as phenomena of corrosive and social criticism through drawing. It develops mechanisms for analising the strategies of humour, when associated with the creative process of drawing. It analises the creative and critical nature of caricature, as well as its eventual aggression. From the relation established between humour and drawing, a practical work is presented, which clarifies the function of this inclusivity. Through its very practicality, rhetorical mechanisms are demonstrated which are inherent in repesentation of caricature and in the use of humouristic strategies.

RESUMO
A presente dissertação discute os mecanismos subversivos da representação da caricatura. Explora de que forma o riso e o cómico se estabelecem como fenómenos de corrosão e crítica social através do desenho. Desenvolve ferramentas de análise das estratégias do humor quando associadas aos processos criativos do desenho. Analisa a natureza crítica e criativa da caricatura, assim como a sua eventual agressividade. Da relação que se estabelece entre o humor e o desenho apresenta-se um trabalho prático que esclarece as funções desta inclusão. Através da própria prática verificam-se mecanismos retóricos inerentes à representação da caricatura e ao uso de estratégias humorísticas.
